Shobaleader One

Squarepusher is always trying something fresh. A few months ago, we were able to listen an EP coming from another label that wasn’t Warp, it came out via Edbanger’s. That seemed a gear shift for the bass hero Tom Jenkinson, and yes, it came out truly different. Shobaleader is a new project that (as far as we know by now) counts with Squarepusher and a few mysterious individuals, as Tom says: “A bunch of crazy kids that are known”.

Squarepusher presents Shobaleader One: D’demonstrator is a robot-funk album, with bits of virtuosismo, as Squarepusher likes to make it clear that he is an impressive musician. The album leaked in the blogosphere a few weeks ago and was impossible to NOT listen to it (and order it). The result of this game between Squarepusher and the mysterious musicians came out as a great electronic/rock-ish album. It will please any fan and it might be appealing for a wider audience, as this album has catchy songs like “Plug Me In”, “Magazine” and “Laser Rock”.

We can’t leave without mentioning the outstanding video created for “Magazine”, reminding everyone of the french duo Daft Punk, but slightly different.
